Hybrid HPHT-SPS Apparatus, model DO-OO4

Hybrid HPHT-SPS (high pressure, high temperature spark plasma sintering) apparatus equipped with a Bridgman chamber that allows the use of both conventional heating with 50 Hz alternating current and high-frequency pulsed current. Depending on the volume of the sintered material, it is possible to sinter the powders under a pressure in the range of 4÷8 GPa and at a temperature of up to 2400 °C. A unique apparatus (one of two in the world) is used to obtain polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PcBN) matrix composites.

Process parameters:

  • maximum press force: 2500 tons;
  • pressure range: ~4–8 GPa;
  • temperature range: 20–2400ºC;
  • maximum heating rate: ~100ºC/s;
  • sample dimensions (after sintering): 14 mm in diameter x 5 mm in height;
  • duration of typical sintering process: 30–120 s.
