ITHACA
ITHACA — Innovative and sustainable TecHnologies for reducing critical raw mAterials dependence for Cleaner transportation Applications — was a COST Innovators Grant developed on the basis of the CRM-EXTREME COST Action CA15102, “Solutions for Critical Raw Materials Under Extreme Conditions.”
Building on the CRM-EXTREME community, ITHACA brought together European universities, research institutes, laboratories, RTOs, SMEs, and industrial partners working on sustainable solutions for critical raw materials. Its broader goal was to support the reduction, substitution, recycling, and more efficient use of strategically important and supply-risk elements in advanced materials and technologies.
The scientific and technological scope of ITHACA covered materials design, advanced manufacturing, protective coatings, catalysts, high-performance alloys, surface engineering, recycling approaches, and performance validation under demanding service conditions. These activities were closely connected to research on materials exposed to high temperature, mechanical loading, friction, wear, corrosion, and other extreme environments.
The expertise represented within the ITHACA and CRM-EXTREME community includes thermal barrier coatings, hard and wear-resistant materials, high-strength steels, superalloys, metal-matrix composites, catalytic materials, sustainable processing routes, and critical raw materials substitution strategies across several industrial sectors.
This LabsArena page presents facilities and expertise connected with the ITHACA and CRM-EXTREME community. The listed equipment and services support access to research infrastructure for materials synthesis, processing, characterization, mechanical testing, tribology, corrosion studies, catalysis, recycling, and technology validation.
